I LOVE a sawtooth star. I ADORE a half rectangle, sharp-pointy star. I LIVE for friendship stars. But every now and then I don’t want to make geese. Or half square triangles, or rectangles.
Enter the Bubble Star. Grab your favorite fat eighth or quarter bundle, a ruler, a pen and a good audiobook. This cutie is going to be your go to star pattern when you don’t want to trim pesky geese. Plus coming in at 10” square you can cut into those bigger prints for the center and showcase that fabric you’ve been too afraid to cut up!
If you can mark measurements, sew a 1/4” seam, and snowball corners you can make a Bubble Star. The first step snowballs a rectangle shape at a fun new angle which gives you that slight curve in the outside corners. (Okay so I kind of lied, you do have to trim the dog ears away. Or don’t. Be a rebel if you want.) Once you nail this technique your stars are going to pop! And let’s be honest, even if you have a onesie or twosie that isn’t perfect (see my own stars above) they are no less magical which is the beauty of handmade.
Bubble Stars mixes full and half blocks. But, if this isn’t your first QuiltCakes pattern release you know I like to include options. You can create half stars with an alternating drop or you can just make a bunch of stars that fall into perfect order. If mixing and matching isn’t your thing then Bubble Stars look great as solid stars as well. Your stash is your only limiting factor for this pattern.
Today through Sunday, June 16 all of my patterns are 20% off. I cannot wait to see what you make and hope you love making your very own Bubble Stars. As always I would love to chat about Bubble Stars, fat quarter bundles, flowers, any good books you’ve read recently, or a banging new dessert recipe if you have one. I appreciate each of you being here and supporting me in my pattern adventures. I hope the Bubble Stars find a special place in your quilting heart like they have mine.
